The car is a convenience: it is difficult to imagine the life of the modern family without the presence of a car. The advantages are many: we travel at a time convenient for us, we travel with the whole family, we have more space for luggage, and we transport our pets without worrying about other people.
In addition, to go to work, our parents need a transport vehicle. Without them, their work would be very difficult. This saves time and also reduces energy consumption when traveling from one place to another.
The car needs fuel, which is of two types – diesel and gasoline. These are fossil fuels that are extracted from the earth. Although the vehicle has so many advantages, it is also a major threat to the environment because it creates pollution that is increasing. And this is due to the increase in the number of vehicles.
The fuel used by the vehicle burns inside the engine, which in turn emits various harmful gases. The gases emitted by the vehicle are carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur oxide. All these gases are harmful to the environment. They are harmful to human health. Carbon monoxide is poisonous. In addition, these gases cause global warming and ozone depletion. Therefore, ultraviolet rays can enter the environment.
In addition to all the dangerous consequences of vehicle pollution, the number of vehicles is increasing every day. There are on average 2 vehicles in one house. Some families have more than that. This is the main reason for the increase in pollution in cities, called smog (from English – smoke – fog).
Some of the most polluted cities in the world are: Lahore in Pakistan, Delhi in India, Kabul in Afghanistan and others.
Sofia is the city with the highest concentration of harmful gases in Bulgaria. Belgrade is the smoggiest city in Serbia.
We can protect ourselves from smog by wearing a mask.
Measures to reduce vehicle pollution
First of all, pollution caused by vehicles can be reduced by reducing the consumption of fossil fuels. It is a good idea to ride a bike instead of a car so that we can get to the same destination with less fuel consumption.
A good way to save energy is to turn off the car’s ignition at a red light. This in turn will save fuel and money. Most modern cars have this feature.
At the same time, minor changes such as driving the car at economical speed, less brake application, reduced acceleration can save fuel and the car will remain in much better condition. Frequent inspections of the condition of vehicles can also reduce fuel consumption.
Governments are taking some important steps to reduce pollution. Electric buses and trains run in cities to reduce the use of diesel buses as public transport. The installation of natural gas engines is now mandatory.
In some cities, car access and parking in central areas is banned in order to encourage environmental thinking and people to use bicycles or public transport that runs on clean natural gas.
Electric cars and bicycles have recently appeared on the market. This reduces fuel consumption for personal transport and is environmentally friendly transport. The future belongs to those types of vehicles that use clean “green” energy.
Just as people have become attached to screens, so they have become attached to cars. We cannot tell an entire community to stop using cars completely. This would make people want to use them even more. Instead, it is good to expand and encourage the use of solar-powered public transport vehicles.
